Telefónica pay-TV boosted by Latin America

Spanish telco Telefónica had 2.4 million pay-TV subscribers globally at the end of June, up 19.4% year-on-year, driven primarily by growth in Latin America.

Telefónica recorded domestic net pay-TV additions of only 4,715 for the second quarter, which in turn was an improvement on the first quarter. The company said its domestic share of the pay-TV market stood at over 14%, the same as at year-end, and that over 86% of its broadband subscribers took a double or triple-play offer.

Telefónica has pay-TV services in operation in Spain, the Czech Republic, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Venezuela.
