Sky to launch 3D TV next year

UK pay-TV operator BSkyB will launch a commercial 3D TV service next year, following impressive take up of its Sky Plus HD DVR product.

Sky has so far confirmed it will launch a 3D TV channel at some point next year. It will offer a range of programming, including movies, entertainment and sport. The Sky Plus HD service, which is also capable of broadcasting 3D TV, currently has 1.313 million customers. To watch 3D TV, customers will also require a new 3D Ready TV, which are expected to be on sale in the UK next year.

Sky also announced that it will launch a “comprehensive” pull VOD service next year, utlising the broadband connectivity of Sky Plus HD set-tops. Sky said it would “provide Sky Plus HD customers with additional choice and control to complement Sky Plus and the current Sky Anytime push VOD service.”
