Sky adds subs at “fastest rate in five years”



UK pay-TV operator BSkyB recorded a subscriber boost of 124,000 in the last three months.

This brings the satellite pay-TV operator’s total subscriber base to 9.44 million subs, moving closer to its target of 10 million subscribers by the end of 2010. The company said that subscribers were joining at the fastest rate in the last five years. Sky saw revenues rise by 7% to £5.3bn (€6.2bn) and posted a net profit of £259m. ARPU reached a new high of £464.

Sky has added 534,000 Sky Plus HD net additions since January to reach 1.313 million at the end of June, while 58% of customers, or 5.5 million households now use the Sky Plus DVR service. The number of customers taking Sky’s multiroom service has doubled in the last 12 months to 6.6 million.
