Telenet orders MVNO network from Alcatel-Lucent

Belgian cable operator Telenet has signed an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent to build, operate and maintain a new mobile telecom network. The investment will position Telenet as the first European cable operator to become a full mobile virtual network operator with its own infrastructure.

Telenet has also contracted Comverse to provide rating and billing systems for digital TV and mobile services.

Alcatel-Lucent will act as overall network integrator for the project under a seven-year deal. Comverse will supply its Comverse One rating and billing system for mobile as well as digital TV services.

Telenet executive vice-president of technology and solutions Jan Vorstermans said the investment showed the company’s commitment to the implementation of Telenet Mobile.
