Carphone Warehouse considers TV move

Carphone Warehouse could become a TV operator following its acquisition of the UK assets of Italian ISP Tiscali.

Charles Dunstone, CEO of the mobile phone retailer and ISP, told the Financial Times that the company was examining whether its Talk Talk broadband and telephony business should expand Tiscali’s TV service.

Carphone Warehouse completed a deal to buy Tiscali’s UK assets, including IPTV service Tiscali TV, for £236m (€275m) last week. Dunstone said the company had no immediate plans to switch off the TV service. He also said Carphone Warehouse was considering participating in the BBC’s proposed Canvas service, a next-generation Freeview set-top box that would enable consumers to view VOD content through a fixed-line broadband connection.
