M6, Canal Plus ink advertising deal

French commercial broadcaster M6 has struck an advertising deal with French pay-TV platform Canal Plus that will work with advertisers targeting high earning viewers.

The two companies have launched a package – dubbed M Plus – that will allow advertisers to buy advertising across eleven of the broadcasters’ channels at a fixed price. The deal will start in September and will last until at least the end of the year.

This comes as M6 is expected to see advertising revenues at its flagship network drop by over 11%. Executive chairman Nicolas de Tavernost told local press that it will take the hit in the second quarter as a result of tough economic conditions.

The broadcaster is also expected to decrease programming costs to help stymie the loss.
