French music collecting society sues YouTube

French independent music label collecting society the Société Civile des Producteurs de Phonogrammes en France (SPPF) is reportedly suing video sharing site YouTube for €10m for hosting music videos without authorisation.

The SPPF says that YouTube is infringing copyright by allowing videos to be shown that it had previously agreed to remove. YouTube has countered that the SPPF has not signed up to its Content ID scheme to identify copyright infringement and block unauthorised content on the site.
