Romania begins switchover process

Romania’s government has given the Ministry of Communications permission to start the digital switchover process.

A spokesperson from the Ministry of Communications said the country was currently technically able to deliver digital-terrestrial TV transmissions to 60% of the country and hoped to reach 80% by the end of the year. The government has mandated that no analogue signals should be broadcast after January 1, 2012. It has also granted the Ministry of Communications permission to begin distributing DTT licences to broadcasters.
