Baltkom concedes defeat on DTT

Latvian cable operator Baltkom has said it will discontinue its trial transmission of digital-terrestrial TV services as soon as incumbent telco Lattelecom launches its own DTT services.

The decision follows an unsuccessful challenge by Baltkom against the Latvian government’s decision to award the licence to operate DTT services to Lattelecom. Baltkom has been testing services in an area covering a 100km radius around Riga since 2007, with over 10,000 households receiving the service, according to the company.

Baltkom said it would continue to develop its own digital services on its cable network.
