Netherlands passes four million digital TV subs

The Netherlands was home to 4.155 million digital TV subscribers at the end of March, representing a 3.9% growth, according to research company Telecompaper.

Cable continues to dominate the digital TV market, with a 50.2% share of the market. Cable operator Ziggo is the leading digital TV provider after adding 58,000 new customers during the first quarter of 2009, ending March with a total of 1.18 million subscribers. CanalDigitaal lost market share, ending the quarter with 840,000 customers, while KPN had 835,000 digital TV customers. UPC’s share of the digital TV market decreased to 16.1%, despite gaining 21,500 net additions during the first quarter to reach a total of 670,500.
