United Internet calls for open access to cable networks

German ISP United Internet wants access to cable operator networks for the delivery of broadband services, according to a report in Die Welt.

United Internet is to request that the country’s telecoms regulator the FNA starts regulating cable TV operators, after claiming that the German broadband market is suffering from being in a state of duopoly between incumbent telco Deustche Telekom and cable operators. The company said it would like to see the creation of a single broadband company in which every rival held a stake, but that it would also accept obtaining the right to use cable operators’ internet networks.
