Sky to launch HD news channel

UK pay-TV operator BSkyB is to launch the country’s first high-definition news channel.

Sky News HD will be a simulcast version of the main Sky News channel and will launch next spring. The operator said it will upgrade its studio and production facilities in West London, as well as its news gathering operations in the UK and overseas, to support HD.

Sky currently has over one million HD subscribers.
