Astra signs RTL for new HD platform

Satellite operator SES Astra has launched a new high-definition service for the German market.

The service, branded HD Plus, will offer various HD channels that are broadcast from Astra’s orbital position at 19.2 ° East. Deals have already been signed with commercial broadcasters RTL and VOX.

Astra said HD Plus is independent from TV operators and offers technical management, including the distribution of smart cards, and marketing of HD programming for broadcasters.
