TDC records 100 million song downloads

Danish telco TDC, owner of the YouSee cable platform, has received 100 million download requests for songs since launching the Play music service in April 2008.

TDC said the figure, which was achieved in 15 months, was the equivalent of every person in Denmark downloading 20 songs. If the music had been purchased through the traditional digital market, it would have cost users upwards of DKK800m (€107m), TDC said. However, the service allows TDC and YouSee mobile and broadband subscribers to legally download music for free.

The service launched with one million tracks and has grown to three million.
