Spanish TV consolidation gets underway

Spanish media company Prisa has confirmed that it is talking to production group Mediapro with a view to merging their respective assets.

A merger has been made possible following an agreement  reached this week whereby Mediapro licenses soccer rights to Prisa, resolving a long-running dispute between the two.
The two parties are allowing one month to reach an agreement that covers the exact shareholder structure and outlines the business model.

Prisa and Mediapro are investors in two of the free-to-air channels, Cuatro and La Sexta respectively, that are challenging the incumbent broadcasters in the country.
