GlobeCast to deliver 3D opera

Broadcast services provider GlobeCast is to deliver a live 3D HD feed of a performance of Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni from the Rennes Opera house in Brittany via satellite to cinemas in Paris and elsewhere in France tomorrow night.

The transmission, in collaboration with Orange Labs, involves combining two video signals in one feed with the assistance of a Sensio 3D Cinema encoder. A GlobeCast SNG vehicle will transmit the event, with GlobeCast trucks also placed at each cinema to downlink the feed and decode it for projection.
