Microsoft adds virtualisation to mediaroom

Microsoft has announced that it has brought virtualisation to its IPTV platform.

Microsoft said Mediroom with virtualisation can deliver up to a six-fold reduction in the number of physical serves required to support an IPTV service, which reduces hardware and management costs. The time to market for Mediaroom customers can also be reduced by up to three weeks, the company said.

Microsoft said that with virtualisation support, it is possible to deploy and operate a full Mediaroom-powered TV service for up to 30,000 subscriber homes using fewer than 10 physical servers.
