Intelsat reports increased revenue and loss

Satellite operator Intelsat reported revenues of US$631.8m (€464.4m) and a net loss of US$557.6m for the first quarter of 2009, compared with revenue of US$572.7m and a net loss of US$412.7m for the same period last year.

Intelsat said its net loss reflected non-cash charges of US$499.1m for orbital location impairments.

The company’s transponder services revenue grew by $32.5m thanks to new capacity sales and renewals from existing customers, offset by an $11.6m decline in revenue from media customers principally in Latin America, the Caribbean and North America.
