D-Smart tops 900k

Turkish pay TV platform D-Smart has topped the 900,000 subscriber mark by end-2008, according to parent company Dogan.

The Turkish media group issued figures for the D-Smart service in a presentation to investors that revealed the pay TV service generated revenues of TRY95m (€45m) in the company’s 2008 financial year, compared with TRY77m a year earlier.

Subscriber numbers were boosted by discounts for yearly subscriptions and the addition of new channel packages and, in the third quarter of 2008, a high-definition TV service.

D-Smart might be faring well at home, but, last year, Dogan had to scale back plans to launch the service in neighbouring countries because of the economic downturn.
