Deutsche Telekom moves forward with IPTV

Deutsche Telekom said it had sold about 600,000 IPTV subscriptions by the end of the first quarter, of which 448,000 were in operation by the end of March.

The figure compares with 480,000 T-Home Entertain subscriptions sold at the end of December.

The telco added about 390,000 retail broadband lines in Germany in the first quarter, compared with 352,000 lines added in the fourth quarter of 2008, taking the total to 11 million. Total broadband lines, including resale, numbered 17 million at the end of the first quarter, with a further 3.5 million lines in international markets. Deutsche Telekom recorded 602,000 domestic fixed-line losses in the quarter, 75,000 fewer than in the fourth quarter. Overall fixed line customers rose by 7.5 million thanks to the inclusion of Greek telco OTE for the first time.

Deutsche Telekom recorded overall revenues of €15.9bn for the quarter, up 6.2% year-on-year. Adjusted EBITDA increased by 2.7% to €4.8bn.
