Virgin Media launches 200Mbps pilot

UK cable operator Virgin Media has launched a customer pilot of 200Mbps broadband access.

Virgin Media says the trial will deliver the fastest speeds from a DOCSIS 3.0 network to date. Following successful lab trials, the pilot started last week in Ashford, Kent, and will build to 100 early adopter customers. Applications to be tested include TV and broadband content in HD and 3D, home IT support, video conferencing and home surveillance.

The pilot will run for at least six months before the results are assessed.
