Swisscom has doubled the number of subscribers to its Bluewin TV IPTV service in 12 months, ending the first quarter of 2009 with 139,000 customers.
The Swiss telco added 21,000 new IPTV customers during the first quarter and said that a simplified self-install programme introduced last year had proved successful with around 90% of new Bluewin customers activating the service without the help of a technician.
The number of broadband access lines in Switzerland rose by 128,000 or 7.7% year-on-year to 1.78 million at the end of March.
Swisscom reported net revenue of CHF2.92bn (1.94bn) for the quarter, a 0.6% fall year-on-year, while EBITDA was down 2.3% to CHF1.13bn. The telcoÂs Italian subsidiary Fastweb increased its subscriber base by 15%, ending May with 1,542,000 customers. The company boosted its net revenue by 14.1% to Â444m and EBITDA by 8% to Â122m.Â
