Discovery ups revenues but international contribution down

US-based factual channel operator Discovery Communications increased overall revenues in the three months to the end of March, but the amount its international networks contributed slipped 4%.

Overall sales for the quarter to end-March were US$817m (€611m), a 5% year-on-year increase while revenues from international were US$255m compared with US$266m in the same period a year earlier.
Affiliate fee revenue generated internationally was down 1% at US$177m, while advertising revenues slid 12%, taking the total to US$57m.

Discovery blamed foreign currency fluctuations for the revenue declines and said that, stripping out these, revenue increased 10%, with the growth coming from the EMEA and Latin American regions.
Discovery issued a full-year revenue forecast. It expects revenues to come in at between US$3.375-US$3.5bn.
