DT confirms German soccer rights deal

Telco Deutsche Telekom has confirmed that it has sub-licensed the IPTV and mobile phone rights to German Bundesliga soccer to Constantin Medien, the German media company that encompasses what was formerly known as EM.Sport, for four years.

Constantin will broadcast all 612 games from the first and second Bundesliga divisions via a dedicated IPTV channel called Live, which will be carried on Entertain, DT’s IPTV service. Customers to T-Mobile, DT’s cell phone division, will also be able to access highlights and live matches.
DT’s decision to sub-license the rights to Constantin is a blow to News Corp-backed German pay-TV operator Premiere, which previously held the rights.
