HD arrives on iPlayer

UK broadcaster the BBC has added HD content to its online catch-up service iPlayer for the first time.

The BBC HD channel is now available on iPlayer, meaning users are able to stream HD content for seven days after its initial broadcast, or download programmes to be viewed within 30 days. Series including Doctor Who, Dragons’ Den, Kerwhizz and a remake of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin will soon be made available in HD on iPlayer.
In addition, higher-quality streams are now available within a new resizable media player. According to the BBC, in the new large video window size, video streams are nearly twice as good as the previous high quality format. New adaptive bitrate technology automatically delivers the best possible viewing experience by detecting the amount of bandwidth available and switching streaming options accordingly.
