RTL could offer cash for Channel 4 merger

Broadcaster RTL could be set to offer cash in an attempt to merge with UK broadcaster Channel 4, according to The Times newspaper.

RTL, which is behind UK broadcaster Channel Five, could use the cash to increase its stake in an enlarged broadcaster. A merger between Channel 4 and Five is regarded as the only alternative to a partnership between Channel 4 and the commercial arm of the BBC, BBC Worldwide. The idea has been communicated to ministers and a cash sum of over £100m (€113m) could be on offer, according to the report.
