MTS taps Ericsson’s hybrid platform for widescale TV rollout

Russian service provider MTS is tapping Ericsson’s hybrid TV platform to build out a combined cable and internet TV service, initially in Moscow, according to local reports.

According to the Digit.ru agency, MTS will roll out the platform over the MGTS network in Moscow before deploying it in networks covering 160 cities over the next two years.

The new service reports that the company’s contract with Ericsson runs to about RUB400 million, initially covering 15 cities.

The deployment is designed to combine DVB-C, IPTV and the Stream OTT service through the TV screen with additional interactive services.
