Sky reportedly preparing launch of SkyQ advanced box

Sky is preparing the imminent launch of a new advanced set-top box called SkyQ that will provide advanced connected TV services with an experience akin to that of Netflix or Apple TV, according to a report by the Sunday Telegraph newspaper.

The box, developed under the codename Project Ethan, will enable the simultaneous recording of four channels on multiple devices and will be able to receive ultra HD broadcasts, according to the paper.

The Telegraph reported that Sky has secured rights to ‘sideload’ content from the box to mobile devices to enable viewing on those devices.

Sky will unveil its full-year results on Wednesday, and the launch of the box is expected to follow that within a few weeks.

News of Project Ethan first emerged last year when the Telegraph reported that Sky was preparing an overhaul of its technology, with a launch originally planned for 2014 and then delayed, initially until the spring of this year.
