NBC Olympics taps Ericsson and Net Insight for PyeongChang games

NBC Olympics, part of the NBC Sports Group, has tapped Ericsson to provide video contribution solutions for its production of the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Ericsson will provide a range of its encoding and satellite receiver technologies to support NBC Olympics video distribution. Ericsson will assist with the equipment and system set up, and will also be on site to provide multi-site support throughout the event.

The Ericsson solution includes its AVP 2000 contribution encoders and its RX8200 Advanced Modular Receivers.

“Ericsson’s reliability and expertise within the compression industry, made them an easy choice to once again support NBC Olympics production of the 2018 Olympic Winter and Paralympic Games,” said Connolly. “With Ericsson’s partnership, we know that we have a reliable and proven solution,” said Christopher Connolly, senior director of transmission engineering and operations, Ericsson.

“We are honoured to once again partner and support the coverage and production of the Olympic Winter Games,” said Ruiz. “By providing our leading video compression solutions and services, including our market leading encoder and receiver technologies, we are ensuring the highest levels of performance, efficiency and reliability for the broadcast of this prestigious event,” said Angel Ruiz, head of media solutions, Ericsson.

NBC Olympics has also tapped Net Insight to provide their ScheduALL resource and transmission management solutions.

NBC Olympics will use ScheduALL, Net Insight’s resource management solution, to orchestrate the logistics of staff members, equipment, locations and transmission feeds. ScheduALL manages information such as video router assignments and satellite uplink scheduling, and automatically passes the information to downstream systems to facilitate on-air coverage for each feed.

“We have once again chosen the ScheduALL software for our mission-critical operations to manage our resources and transmissions during the Games,” said Dan Robertson, VP, information technology, NBC Olympics.

“We are very proud to contribute to the success of the NBC Olympics production. NBC Olympics will be supported onsite by Net Insight personnel throughout the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, and at NBC Olympics’ office in the United States,” said Fredrik Tumegård, CEO of Net Insight.
