Netflix and Deutsche Telekom extend partnership

netflixNetflix and Deutsche Telekom have partnered up to give all of the latter’s customers access to the streaming service.

Telekom customers in Germany, Poland and the Netherlands have already experienced the benefits of the partnership.

From this October, EntertainTV customers in Germany have been able to access the Netflix content in 4K on the EntertainTV set-top-box.

In Poland, the streamer’s content has been available as part of a T-Mobile offering since 2016.

Additionally, T-Mobile Netherlands and Netflix launched a special offer giving customers an unlimited data offer and access to the streaming service for six months.

Now, Telekom customers in Germany, Poland, Croatia, Greece and Romania can also stream Netflix over mobile networks via StreamOn.

“We want to ensure the best content offering and TV experience for our customers and will work with Netflix to further expand our great partnership,” said Thomas Kicker, senior vice president of group partnering at Deutsche Telekom.

Netflix VP of business development EMEA Maria Ferreras (pictured), said: “This partnership builds on our already strong relationship with Deutsche Telekom. We are thrilled to open a new world of exclusive and critically-acclaimed entertainment for millions of Deutsche Telekom’s TV and Mobile customers in Europe.”

Despite the work Telekom has done with Netflix, it has original content ambitions of its own. This September the German pay TV provider commissioned its first original series – a French-coproduced comedy named Germanized.

Last week, Ferreras told delegates at OTT TV World Summit partnerships with companies such as Deutsche Telekom were driving a significant proportion of the SVOD giant’s expanding international subscription base.
