TV5Monde launches VodafoneZiggo app

TV5Monde VodafoneZiggoFrench broadcaster TV5Monde has launched an app via Dutch cable operator VodafoneZiggo to help viewers learn the French language.

Viewers can use the ‘7 Jours sur La Planète’ app to watch catch-up programmes with French subtitles running across the bottom of the screen accompanied by a vocabulary list of words.

Users will be able to play five different games based on these programmes, which are designed to extend their linguistic knowledge while testing their understanding of the program they just watched.

The various exercises focus on the different aspects of learning a language, such as listening, reading, and understanding and viewers can set difficulty levels as they progress.

The service will be updated on a weekly basis and is available in Dutch, French, English, German, and Spanish. Users can access it through the VodafoneZiggo TV App store on the Horizon set-top box. The app first launched via Vodafone Spain last year.

“Most on-demand content is merely time-shifted content,” said Diane Couderc, TV5Monde’s regional director for Europe. “With this proposition of edutainment – unique in the world – we are delivering real added value to the viewers. We are delighted to team up with VodafoneZiggo on this. Further roll outs for ‘7 jours’ are planned across Europe in the forthcoming months.”
