Ooredoo taps Harmonic for 4K channel delivery

Qatar-based telecom operator Ooredoo has partnered with Harmonic on the delivery of 4K TV channels in the Middle East.

Ooredoo launched what it claimed was the region’s first commercial 4K TV service last month and is using a Harmonic’s Electra video compression solution for all-IP environments.

“The FunBox UHD channel is available today for all subscribers of Ooredoo TV. This launch is part of our push to offer leading international and local content to our customers,” said Fatima Sultan Al Kuwari, community and public relations director, Ooredoo Qatar.

“Harmonic enables us to deliver best-in-class video quality so subscribers can enjoy more breathtaking visual content, detail, contrast dynamics and extended colours than ever before.”
