Viaplay taps Unified Streaming for content delivery

Modern Times Group (MTG)-owned Nordic OTT TV service Viaplay has chosen Unified Streaming, a provider of cross-platform video-streaming technologies, to help deliver a multi-CDN approach to enable delivery of its services.

Viaplay delivers SVOD, TVOD, EST, PPV, live sports and over 120 channels across multiple devices.

Unified Streaming says that its Unified Origin platform enables Viaplay’s multi-CDN strategy. A single format is stored and packaged on-the-fly to DASH, HLS and MSS with DRM protection. The company says that this reduces storage volumes, enables fast implementation of format-related changes and gives Viaplay the possibility to target its AV features to specific devices.

The integration of Unified Origin offers Viaplay the possibility to add start and end parameters for live events, which means improved AV handling at a single event and quick turnaround of clips published on the sports news site, according to Unified Streaming.

“Teaming with Unified Streaming has given Viaplay the flexibility and strength needed to continue as the regions leading online service for TV, sports and film,” said Kaj af Kleen, CTO of Viaplay.

Unified Streaming’s VP of Global Sales Simon Westbroek said: “Viaplay made an important decision by taking their content delivery to the next level. Digital devices continue to multiply; with various devices per viewer it is important to have a highly flexible and fast approach to content delivery. We are proud and it was a pleasure to work with Viaplay during the implementation phase and are looking forward to a long innovative relationship.”
