Mediaset secures fresh court ruling to counter piracy

MediasetItalian broadcaster Mediaset has secured a ruling from a court in Milan ordering “a major supplier” of internet services to prevent its customers accessing it.rojadirecta.eu, which it has identified as one of the major sources of online piracy of its content.

The internet company, reported by the Italian press to be Swisscom-owned Fastweb, will be forced to remove references to Rojadirecta sites regardless of the country in which they are registered, with a penalty of €30,000 to be applied for each day’s delay in implementing the decision.

Mediaset said that the court’s ruling had “particular relevance” in the fight against piracy. The broadcaster has already obtained a ruling from a Roman court against the management of the site itself and two rulings against it in Milan.
