VBox launches new TV gateway

VBox Communications has launched a new TV gateway device that will be showcased at IBC.

The TV Gateway is available direct from VBox for €129 and shipments are scheduled to start in October. The box can receive DVB-T2 HD broadcast quality TV signals and stream them over a home network to any networked device.

According to VBox, the box is the only device on the market capable of streaming from DVB-T2, enabling HDTV services such as Freeview HD in the UK, Teletene in Belgium, Europa 7HD in Italy, and other HDTV services in Finland, Denmark, Sweden and other countries. It is also backward compatible with DVB-T networks.

The second-generation device receives broadcast TV signals from terrestrial sources and converts them to IP at the consumer’s home. The device then simultaneously streams multiple broadcast TV channels across the home network to any connected UPnP device, such as a smart TV, tablet, PC, Mac, smartphone, Android set-top-box, game console, iPhone and iPad. Additionally, the gateway serves as a whole-house-DVR/PVR and allows users to record live HDTV on removable or network storage.

“We are committed to providing consumers the highest quality multi-screen TV experience,” said Amir Aharonovich, VP of marketing for VBox Communications.

“Until now, TV viewers with access to high-quality aerial or terrestrial DVB-T2 could only enjoy HDTV on their television.  Now, our second generation devices extend the same content – in full broadcast quality – to any connected device.”
