Nevion to introduce new media gateway

Media transport specialist Nevion will launch its NX4600 H.264/AVC Media Gateway at IBC.

Designed primarily for contribution networks, the NX4600 will offer H.264/MPEG-4 AVC encoding and decoding and is the latest addition to Nevion’s range of media gateways.

The NX4600 is designed to bring together Nevion’s experience in real-time delivery of professional-quality and secure video-and-audio-over-IP in a compact and versatile device.

“Broadcasters and production companies are moving steadily towards IP for professional quality contribution and primary distribution because this is cost-effective and flexible,” said Janne T. Morstøl, chief product and development officer, Nevion.

“The NX4600 is an important contribution to that transition. H.264/AVC provides great trade-off between bandwidth usage and reasonably low latency, and Nevion’s new product provides top video quality, with best-in-class user-friendliness and unrivalled reliability.”

The NX4600 unit can include up to 4 codec modules, each of which can be used either as an encoder or a decoder, providing up to 4 encoders or 4 decoders in a single RU. A module can be switched from encoding to decoding and vice-versa without need for hardware change.
