BBC Worldwide partners with SeaChange for BBC Store

The BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, has partnered with SeaChange ahead of the planned launch of its online BBC Store next year.

SeaChange will provide a complete managed service based on its Cloud Adrenaline platform, allowing Worldwide to make TV content available online for purchase via BBC Store.

Cloud Adrenalin is designed to let TV service and content providers deliver multi-screen services that incorporate blended entertainment with personalised content. Its pay-as-you-grow model lets providers dynamically control spending in response to elastic requirements for content, subscribers and levels of service offering.

“We selected SeaChange because it’s focused exclusively on creating solutions for extremely demanding television operations worldwide,” said Michael Fleshman, senior vice president of consumer digital technology at BBC Worldwide.

“Our strategy for BBC Store will use the cloud to achieve scale, reliability and quality.  SeaChange Cloud Adrenalin will be the key to our ability to present the programs we’re offering on any devices viewers choose.”

The BBC Store is slated to launch in the UK next year and will offer programs not currently available online, including content that is no longer on the BBC’s iPlayer catch-up service.
