Dutch operators top Netflix speed list

netflix Bedroom_Device_shot1-0043_V_Final_0000_L_play_onb2The Netherlands continues to provide the best viewing experience for Netflix users in terms of the amount of bandwidth available, according to the latest edition of the subscription video-on-demand service provider’s Speed Index.

According to Netflix, bandwidth available to its users in the Netherlands averaged 3.61Mbps in July, with Norway, Denmark and Sweden all posting speeds higher than 3Mbps on average.

Caiway and Ziggo were the leading speed providers in the Netherlands, delivering an average of 3.83Mbps. UPC came next with 3.71Mbps.

In the UK, Virgin Media provided the best experience, with an average speed of 3.41Mbps, followed by BT with 2.99Mbps, Sky with 2.76Mbps, EE with 2.67Mbps and TalkTalk with 2.63Mbps.

The US came a relatively poor 13th among the 20 countries surveyed. Cablevision and Cox delivered average speeds just North of 3Mbps while Comcast and Time Warner Cable delivered average speeds of 2.82Mbps and 2.16Mbps respectively. Verizon came bottom of the 16 companies surveyed with an average of just 970kbps.
