VoD traction to increase as digital payments soar, says Juniper

Online VoD services like Netflix will be deployed and will have gained traction in most European markets that are yet to introduce them over the next five years, according to Juniper Research.

In its new Digital Payments Strategies whitepaper, the research firm noted an accelerating migration from physical format media sales, such as DVD and CDs, to digital streaming and downloads across “all core content sectors.”

Juniper highlighted an increased trend towards VoD services like Netflix, which had some 35.7 million subscribers in the US with a further 1.75 million international subscribers at the end of March.

Broadly, Juniper predicted that the annual transaction value of online, mobile and contactless payments will reach US$4.7 trillion by 2019, up from just over US$2.5 trillion this year.
