German independent cable operator Tele Columbus has acquired the North-Rhine Westphalia cable networks of Düren-based local service provider Gesellschaft für Breitbandkabel-und Satellitenkommunikationstechnik (GBS), giving it an additional 1,900 homes in Cologne and Bergheim.

Tele Columbus will initially deliver TV services to GBS subscribers, ahead of connecting GBS homes to its HFC network to deliver broadband internet services.

Stefan Beberweil, chief commercial officer of Tele Columbus Group, said the acquisition was in line with the company’s policy of expanding via its own network and acquisition and would give it “considerable potential to expand our marketing base and make our product range accessible to more cable customers”.
