Canal+ to launch YouTube children’s channels

French channels operator Canal+ is launching a pair of children’s channels on YouTube.

Zac & Zig and Piwi will debut on the Google-owned platform on June 18, targeted at kids aged 3-6.

Zac & Zig will be an education-themed network with educational programming and participatory games offered, while Piwi will show cartoons and educational shows.

The news comes after Canal+ this week ended discussions with telco Orange over the future of YouTube’s France-based rival Dailymotion. Canal+ was said to want a majority stake, though Orange was determined to retain control itself.

Reports have also surfaced this week linking Canal+ owner Vivendi with a sale of its German VOD service Watchever.
