Portugal Telecom teams up with RTP and Hispasat for Ultra HD broadcast

Portugal Telecom/Meo has teamed up with public broadcaster RTP to deliver ultra HD coverage of the friendly World Cup warm-up match between Portugal and Greece in Lisbon tomorrow.  

The coverage will the be first live UHD broadcast in the country. Spanish satellite operator Hispasat will provide satellite capacity for Meo on the Hispasat 1E satellite at 30° West. Content will be compressed in HEVC and will be transmitted at 50 frames per second.

PT/Meo will transmit the match via its fibre network to prototype Meo boxes capable of receiving 4K signals as well as 4K-enabled Samsung TVs.
