Play increases revenues and subscribers

Russian on-demand service Play increased its revenues by 11 times and passed the 100,000 subscribers milestone at the end of last year, according to the company.

The company said that its monthly turnover for January reached RUB60 million, with its transactional services passing the breakeven point for the first time.

Play’s turnover grew from RUB23 million in 2012 to RUB259 million in 2013, while the company’s monthly customer base comprised 100,000 premium users, with a total of 500,000 people using the service overall and over five million devices registered.

The company said that 80% of total views were via smart TVs, which have emerged as the leading device platform for Russian online video-on-demand services. Smart TVs accounted for 90% of the company’s revenue streams. Mobile application downloads reached three million for iOS and Android devices combined.
