NHK’s English-language channel ups global footprint

Japanese broadcaster NHK’s English-language channel, NHK World TV, has upped its distribution to more than 270 million global households, an increase of 23 million homes since the beginning of 2013, according to the broadcaster’s stats.

NHK claims that NHK World TV is now available in roughly 140 countries and regions, including the UK, where the station is available in available in 1.6 million households since its launch there in May, and Israel, where it is available to 900,000 households since its launch in September.

“With an emphasis on such places as North America and Southeast Asia, NHK World TV hopes to further expand its service areas in 2014 so that more people can enjoy the latest news and wide-ranging programs coming from Japan in English,” the broadcaster said.
