ESPN Player launches on smart TVs

ESPN has launched its ESPN Player on Samsung’s smart TV platform, with LG soon to follow.

ESPN Player, offering live and on-demand sports, is now available on the Samsung platform across the UK and Europe.

Users can download the free ESPN Player App directly onto their TVs from Samsung Apps, and existing subscribers to the service can access the service by logging in with their ESPN Player username and password.

The ESPN Player app is available on all 2012 and 2013 model Samsung Smart televisions.

ESPN Player offers daily, weekly, monthly and annual pass subscriptions ranging in price from £1.99 (€2.35) to £99.99 in the UK.

ESPN said that ESPN Player saw 90% year-on-year growth in subscriptions to its ESPN College Pass subscription package in August.

Charly Classen, senior director, digital and marketing, ESPN, Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “Bringing ESPN Player to connected TV’s is a great way to give sports fans the ability to access their subscription on the best available screen. The connected TV app is designed with user-friendliness in mind – making the experience straightforward and simple, delivering quality sport to passionate subscribers. We’re excited about this stage in the product’s development and expect to continue to grow and enhance ESPN Player in the year ahead.”
