SES-6 satellite now operational

Satellite operator SES has completed its in-orbit testing of its June 4-launched SES-6 satellite, which is now fully operational and in commercial service at the 40.5 degrees west orbital position.

The satellite is equipped with 43 C-band and 48 Ku-band transponders and has comprehensive coverage of North America, Latin America, Europe and the Atlantic Ocean.

SES-6 replaces SES’s NSS-806 satellite at the same orbital position and offers continuity of service and expanded capacity in the C-band for video neighbourhoods in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Brazilian telco Oi signed on as a new anchor customer for the SES-6 satellite last month.
