South Africa’s SuperSport is to launch new HD sports channels on the DStv pay TV platform next week.
From July 23 sports fans will be able to access the two new services, SuperSport 5HD and SuperSport 6HD. The broadcaster said the channels would enable it to increase its capacity to deliver live HD broadcasts.
SuperSport 5HD will focus on motorsports, boxing, swimming and athletics, while SuperSport 6HD will be the home for international football leagues such as the German Bundesliga, Spanish La Liga and the Italian Serie A.
SuperSport will also launch a third channel, SuperSport 8, which will cover local sports events such as university athletics and school competitions.
“The addition of new HD channels speaks to our commitment to provide our viewers with the best available content on the best available platform and also highlighting our drive to continuously innovate. With an impressive line-up of leagues including the PSL, SuperSport will be showcasing the best international leagues on this growing and highly demanded HD platform,” said Happy Ntshingila, CEO of SuperSport.
