Canal Plus files complaint against beIN Sport

Canal Plus has filed a complaint against Al Jazeera’s beIN Sport for anti-competitive behaviour, according to local reports. 

According to BFM Business new site, Canal Plus has filed a complaint with the Tribunal de Commerce after preparing a case over several months. The pay TV group is arguing that the Qatari group is engaging in unfair competition, and that Canal Plus, as an enterprise that needs to make a profit, cannot possibly compete with a broadcast operation funded by the Qatari state.

Last month, Canal Plus president Bertrand Meheut said that beIN Sport was likely to turn a loss in excess of €300 million for its first year. Canal Plus is now arguing that beIN Sport is being sold at a price that doesn’t meet its costs.
