MultiChoice adds Cape Verde Television and SA community channels

South African pay TV operator MultiChoice has added a new Portuguese-language channel, Cape Verde Television, to the line-up of services on the DStv platform.

MultiChoice has struck a deal with distributor Thema to carry the public broadcast channel in Angola and Mozambique on all Portuguese packages.

Cape Verde Television’s mission is to strengthen the Cape Verde identity and forge closer bonds with the Cape Verdean diaspora.

The channel airs a mix of news, sports, cultural programming, music, entertainment, drama series and kids shows.
“This channel is one more example of MultiChoice’s commitment to offer its subscribers a large volume of content in Portuguese, but it also serves to help Cape Verdeans living abroad to remain in touch with their country’s culture,” said Nico Meyer, CEO of MultiChoice Africa.

Separately, DStv in South Africa will from July 9 include local community channels Tshwane TV and will add Cape Town Television (CTV) in September.

The inclusion of the two channels on DStv will give them a national footprint for the first time.

The addition of Tshwane TV and CTV is part of MultiChoice’s strategy of providing more South African content on DStv. The platform already includes a range of local channels including Soweto TV, Bay TV and 1 KZN.
