Liberty Global unlikely to counter-bid for Kabel Deutschland

KDG logo on wallLiberty Global is unlikely to make a fresh counter-offer for Kabel Deutschland following Vodafone’s €7.7 billion bid, according to various press reports.

According to Bloomberg, Liberty Global, which made an offer for the German cable operator last month, has recognised that its bid would face likely competition obstacles and also considers the Vodafone offer to be high.

However, Liberty Global hasn’t made a final decision, reported Bloomberg, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

Kabel Deutschland accepted Vodafone’s increased offer in June. According to Bloomberg, Liberty Global has not had talks with the cable operator’s owners since then.

Vodafone proposed an all-cash deal to buy the German cable leader, while the Liberty Global offer involved merging its existing cable assets into Kabel Deutschland. Liberty Global already owns Unitymedia Kabel BW, with networks in North-Rhine Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Württemburg in western Germany.
